Website development involves six processes:
planning, analysis, design, implementation, promotion, and innovation.
These processes comprises the complete cycle of website development.
But before these processes are done, there are important elements or
information that has to be studied and researched first. These elements
are purpose statement, objective statement, web specification, web
presentation, audience information, and domain information.
These elements are needed in accomplishing the web
development processes. The purpose statement refers to the reason for
making the website and its functions. Objective statement is a complete
list and definition of the specific goals. Web specification refers to
the explanation of the web constraints and elements in details. The web
presentation pertains to how the information is delivered to the
audience. Audience information is all about the target audience for the
web and those who uses the information. The domain information is the
collected data and knowledge of the subject domain that the web covers.
The collection of data and knowledge should cover the information
provided to the users and the information that web developers need.
The actual development process starts with planning
down to innovation. After innovation, the website will then be planned
again for certain improvement. Notice that the process is a continuous
cycle.
Planning is the setting of the overall goals of the
company, which includes definition of the purpose, and objective for
the website, as well as the policies for information and development.
Analysis refers to the evaluation of the consistency of information,
checking of technical construction of the web, and verification of
correctness of the domain information. Design is the separation of
information into pages and connecting them along routes of use and user
thinking. It also involves providing of information and creating
consistent look and feel. Implementation is the process wherein
extendable directory and file structure are created by using the web
development tools. Promotion involves marketing strategies and
techniques and all public relation issues. It is the actual advertising
of the web. Innovation is the continuous enhancement of the website to
meet the specific needs of the audience.
Once the website is developed, its quality and
service is maintained. Maintenance is essential in keeping current
customers. Website development and maintenance services can be divided
into five stages. These stages involve all of the essential elements
and the processes for website development. The first stage involves
extensive analysis and discussion of the website development. The
second stage covers the designing of the website, which involves the
overall layout, navigation and user interface of the website. In the
third stage, the website is fully developed. The website is tested on
the fourth stage of website development and maintenance services. The
final stage involves monitoring and updating of the websites.
Basically, this is the maintenance stage, wherein major revamping of
the website is done.
